OTT vs theatre: which films actually deserve the big screen

Sound design, scale and shared silence — a practical guide to spending your ticket money on the right releases.

By Asli Rating

Not every good film needs a theatre, and not every theatre film is good.

If a film is built on sound — a train, a storm, a score that rattles your chest — the theatre is doing half the work of the storytelling. Watch it there.

If a film lives in faces and dialogue, your living room is fine, and the pause button is a feature, not a betrayal.

Our simple rule: scale and sound go to the multiplex, intimacy and structure go to OTT. Everything else is about who you want to watch it with.
